If you're looking for a unique, immersive experience right here in Frederick, look no further than the escape rooms at Frederick's own Clue IQ at 103 S. Carroll Street. If you haven't experienced an escape room before, this is the perfect place to start. Whether you want to raid a WWII bunker, find Excalibur and rule Camelot or experience augmented reality with an magical outdoor adventure, ClueIQ has a game for just about everyone.
For your chance to win a $50 gift certificate to ClueIQ, comment on our FiNDiT Frederick Facebook post (not on our blog) with the escape room theme you'd most like to play at ClueIQ, or tell us which one you've played before! On Thursday, July 25 at 3 p.m., we'll randomly choose THREE winners. What's an escape room?
Escape rooms are a live-action, team-based game that allow the group of players to collaborate, solve puzzles and discover clues together to accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time. Games usually include 2-10 people and are set in fictional, themed locations. It's a perfect activity for a date night, birthday party, family night or team-building with your coworkers.
The game starts with an introduction to the rules of the game and how to win. Then, the clock starts and players must complete the game within a set amount of time. During this time, players can explore the room(s), find clues and solve puzzles that help them progress further in the game. At ClueIQ, team members can ask for unlimited hints if they get stuck, but only teams that ask for 3 or less hints can appear on the leaderboard. If you achieve the goal within the time limit, you win the game. Teams with record-breaking times can be placed on the leaderboard. However, if you run out of time before achieving the goal, you lose the game. Puzzle types can include riddles, ciphers, abstract logic, assembly of an object (like a jigsaw puzzle) , team communication, mathematics, searching for hidden objects, and more. Keep in mind that every escape room is different and different levels can be played. For your first time, try booking a beginner or intermediate room. What can I expect at Clue IQ?
You and a group of your friends and/or family have 60 minutes to work together and solve clues and reach the objective. Each theme takes participants on a different adventure to a unique time, place or event, and every game is mission-based and follows a story.
ClueIQ prides itself on being a fully immersive experience with the most technologically advanced games in the region. Each of the escape rooms are 100% customized from the ground up — this means no fluorescent lights or technology in the Blitzkrieg room. Browse ClueIQ's site to see the rooms for yourself!
