Friday June 5th is National Donut Day. The day that these circular pastries fill our stomachs with sweet, sweet satisfaction. Luckily for us, there are a number of choices to get our fill of the tasty treats in the area on this day of celebration (or just any day of the week for a good breakfast or dessert!) KRUMPES DONUTS (Photo courtesy of Krumpe’s Donuts) For those in the Hagerstown area searching for the best place to donut, look no further than Krumpes Donuts. This family owned establishment is tucked away on Maryland Avenue, where the hours open to the public span from 7pm-2am, and their creations can be seen around the area at local businesses and office round tables from those co-workers who really know how to share. Max Krumpe, a 4th generation Krumpe, says this national day of donuts is one of their favorites. “This day is an exciting day for us- you can tell especially on our social media,” he said. “Last year we sold over 70 dozen of our Strawberry Shortcake doughnuts. It’s still one of our top sellers!” But for the Krumpe’s team, every day is a donut day. “It’s all about seeing everybody’s face when they bite into a fresh, hot doughnut. It’s just so nice when you see something like this make someone’s day,” Krumpe said. The small establishment has a new side door open to the public to form a line and prepare for their treats to be served fresh and hot! GLORY DOUGHNUTS On the other side of town, look for the new storefront of Glory Doughnuts, a completely plant-based eatery complete with coffee, teas, juices, and other breakfast treats. The new storefront is located on the corner of Church and East Street in Downtown Frederick.
Open Tuesday through Sunday from 7am-3pm, this eco-friendly bakery serves a number of vegan entrees. Upon visiting, the cases in front of the cash register contained about 8 different varieties of mouth watering donuts, including S’mores, Chai Tea, Cinnamon Twist, and Lugenberry. Entrees include Pabst Blue Ribbon Belgian Waffles, BBQ Tofu Club Sandwiches, Salted Apple Pie Stuffed French Toast, and (Tofu) Fried Egg Sandwich. Don’t forget to celebrate National Donut Day on June 5th by stopping by either of these locations for delectable dough! Or, really… just any day when you need a good donut to fill a hungry hole in your tummy!
