It’s hard to argue- we live in a very unique town. Recently, Movoto acclaimed Frederick to be one of the best DC suburbs for young adults, Zagat named our city to be a top spot for foodies, and numerous shout-outs from a number of publications and organizations recognized our bustling downtown and beautiful clustered-spire-cityscape. On August 15th, another unique Frederick staple returns to keep the wheels in this city turning! The Clustered Spires High Wheel Race will bring in the best (and tallest) high-wheel bikes from all over to compete in a challenging and exciting display of athleticism for all to see.
Presented by Brewers Alley and Visit Frederick, all proceeds benefit The Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County. The Frederick County Bank (FCB) is a local sponsor who can only express sincere excitement to be a part of this great Frederick attraction. SVP of Marketing at FCB, Richard A. Davies explains the multiple benefits this amazing event has for the community. “With the growing popularity of the race, it helps boost tourism and thus the local economy,” Davies said. “The historic nature of the High Wheel Race fits well with the historicity of Frederick County and City.”
The event this year includes a new attraction- The Frederick County Bank Children’s race. This event allows for local members of the Boys and Girls club to enter the race. FCB “takes seriously the betterment of children through whatever means are available. This includes these types of structured (Boys & Girls Club) programs as well as financial education,” Davies continued. Many opportunities are available for people to watch, participate, and become a part of this cherished tradition. Starting at Brewers Alley, the race will allow for high-wheel riders to come together for the nation’s ONLY high wheel bike race. Competitors can wind through downtown Frederick streets on their personalized trikes and bikes of all sizes. All are invited to come watch as the streets come alive for this special event, only open to 30 riders from all over.
