FiNDiT1: The Business

GETTYSBURG, PA --Just half an hour from the city of Frederick is a tranquil place where you can escape to a destination that offers the amenities and hospitality of a five-star boutique hotel, but also so much more.

The Lodges at Gettysburg sit atop one of the highest ridgelines in the town, overlooking vast hallowed and sacred ground. Twenty-eight rustic-yet-elegant lodges, encompassing 45 rooms, offer an unforgettable destination for family vacations, weekend getaways, corporate retreats, weddings and other special events.

As a nod to the deep history of the location, each of the lodges are named after states that fought in the Battle of Gettysburg.

What to Expect

Guests can enjoy the beautiful 63-acre property by hiking on 37 acres of wooded trails, fishing in the three-acre Hunter Lake (borrow some fishing poles from the front desk!) or watching the sunset from atop the mountain. While the town of Gettysburg itself has plenty to offer, guests never have to leave the Lodges during their stay if they would prefer not to.

Each lodge comes equipped with modern amenities like air conditioning and a refrigerator, as well as luxurious down bedding and comfy mattress toppers. (Those with allergies can request non-down bedding.) Despite these modern conveniences, each lodge is finished with beautiful hardwoods to keep the “rustic elegance” feel that The Lodges strives for. Also, two of the lodges are completely ADA-compliant for guests who need special accommodations.

The Lodges team is always looking for ways to update, move forward and stay modern. What may seem like a small detail to other lodging companies is taken very seriously by The Lodges. Even amenities like mattresses and iPod hookups were extensively researched by the team.

“We’re constantly trying to move [forward] with the times here,” said Denise Schultz, general manager of The Lodges. “We never want to lose that rustic elegance, and we will maintain that five-star customer service you’d expect at a five-star hotel.”

Lodges: Captain's Lodge, Presidential Lodge, General's Lodge, North/South Lodge, Lieutenant's Lodge, Corporal's Quarters, Admiral's Lodge, The Glory Lodge, The General's Lodge (ADA-accessible).

Weddings and Other Events

Spring, summer, fall or winter, The Lodges is the perfect place to book your dream wedding.
It is a regionally-renowned all-season wedding venue; it hosts about 65 weddings on its property each year. When booking with Lodges, the happy couple can expect to be the only couple getting married on the property that day so they receive all the attention they deserve.

If considering the Lodges for their wedding venue, couples should plan to book up to a year or two in advance for their special day.

The Lodges at Gettysburg doesn’t just host weddings, though. It caters to both public and private sector organizations for meetings and retreats and also hosts special trainings for the military and other agencies. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, retirement, anniversary, company picnic, prom party or wedding, The Lodges has all you need to make the day memorable.

“We’re so versatile; we can do a five-person event or a 240-person event,” Schultz said.

Food at The Lodges: Catering, Pub Fare, Breakfast

Hungry vacationers can enjoy tasty pub fare and local drinks at the guests-only Gloryridge Tavern, which offers warm 19th century ambiance, reclaimed hardwood floors, a handcrafted walnut bar and a new outdoor patio.

Continental breakfast is also served daily from 7:30 a.m to 10:30 a.m.

For events with 20+ guests, The Carriage House Inn Restaurant & Catering is the exclusive caterer of the Lodges at Gettysburg and meticulously prepares scrumptious meals on-site at the Lodges. Carriage House also works with any guests who have dietary restrictions.

Located just 10 minutes away over the Mason-Dixon line, the Emmitsburg, MD-based Carriage House is well-known for fine American cuisine, USDA-certified beef and exceptional seafood (try the crab cakes!), but it is also extremely versatile.

“We prepare everything from filet mignon to hot dogs and burgers,” said Director of Events and Catering Beth Senseney.

Garnishes and herbs used by Carriage House chefs are from their own herb garden in Emmitsburg, and they also source fresh produce from many local vendors.

Like The Lodges, The Carriage House Inn is family-owned and operated and has been for over 30 years.

“Their team blends so well with our team, it’s like one big family,” Schultz said.

The Lodges at Gettysburg believes that if someone is spending their money to stay there, it should be an exceptional experience from check-in to check-out and everything in between.

“We have a five-star customer service mindset,” said Lodges President and Co-Owner Shawn Cassidy. “Whether it’s a corporate event, a family reunion or a wedding — the most memorable day of their life — we want to make that day special and memorable.”

Cassidy expressed pride in every facet of the Lodges team, from front desk reception to housekeeping and beyond.

“What I love is the culture we embrace here — our team embraces it and that’s what makes us so unique,” he said. “Because we’re so small, we’re very nimble and the staff is extremely service-oriented.”
